Now that the Firewise renewal process is in the rear view mirror, I wanted to share a few tips that we discovered to make data submission to the NFPA Firewise Portal easier and more effective for next year:

  1. – Report Quarterly: Breaking down vegetation, time, and expenses into quarterly installments helps your reporting reflect when communities were most active throughout the year. This data is valuable for planning resource applications and educational outreach programs looking back at when homeowners are most likely to be engaged.
  2. – Post Current and Past Action Plans: Showing your action plans for the upcoming year is as important as documenting past work. Wildfire preparation is an ongoing process, and documenting completed and uncompleted goals over time helps maintain relevance for the work yet to be done.
  3. – Make Certificates Accessible: While it may not be a major achievement, the Certificate of Good Standing can be submitted to the CalFair Plan for rate reductions. Allowing participating community members to easily download their copy and registering that download saves time for local leaders and encourages participation.

Consider our FireSmart CC app. It gives you the ability to manage all of the above and more. Simply put, it helps both leaders and owners stay compliant and engaged in essential wildfire mitigation efforts.

Sharpening your data tools is as important as sharpening chainsaws.
